Jared Taylor, a graduate of Mayde Creek High School, has been chosen to receive a $2,000 dollar scholarship from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9182 in Katy.
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants had to be a son, daughter, grandson or granddaughter of a former veteran or an active member of the military. The process also included an essay in which applicants wrote about honoring veterans. Through the application, the VFW hopes high school seniors recognize and honor the sacrifices veterans and other service members have made and show this appreciation in their essay, the VFW said in a press release.
Taylor is currently planning on attending Sam Houston State University in the fall and hopes to pursue a job in criminal justice.
