Rotary Club of Katy breaks record with scholarship awards

The Rotary Club of Katy, and the Katy Rotary Fund Board announced the 15 winners of Katy Rotary Scholarships for the 2020/2021 school year. The Club awards at least one scholarship annually to a graduate from each of the Katy ISD High Schools and this year awarded a record $63,000 in scholarship awards, including a top award of $10,000.

Katy ISD students apply for a Rotary Club of Katy scholarship through their school counselor and are selected based on achievement, need and impact. This year the scholarship award process included a written application and essay as well as an interview with a scholarship panel made up of seven members of The Rotary Club of Katy.

The 15 scholarships awarded were:
• $10,000 Scholarship
     o Noah Dickey – Morton Ranch High School
• $7,500 Scholarship
     o Tristan Lanclos – Katy High School
• $5,000 Scholarship
     o Julie Almaguer – Seven Lakes High School
• Additional Scholarships ranging from $2,500 to $4,000
     o Taylor High School: Chloe LaBard
     o Paetow High School: Zachary Cooley
     o Cinco Ranch High School: Megan Steinberg and Hayley Byrd
     o Katy High School: Adelyn Langford, Hailey Tucker, Yanna Mouton and Elian Gorrostieta
     o Tompkins High School: Rimi Ejner
     o Mayde Creek High School: Jessica Zataratous
     o Seven Lakes High School: Samuel Yang
     o Morton Ranch High School: Victoria Khong

The 2021 scholarship recipients and their families were recognized at The Katy Rotary Club weekly meeting on Thursday, July 29th, with 11 of the 15 scholarship recipients attending in person.

Funding for Scholarships is provided by The Katy Rotary Fund, a 501c3 charity focused on education and providing scholarships for students from Katy ISD high schools. The primary fundraiser for the Katy Rotary Fund is the Katy Triathlon, with 100% of proceeds going to scholarships. The Katy Rotary Fund is pleased to see the return of this fundraiser in 2021, following cancelation due to Covid19 in 2020. Additional funding for scholarships also comes from Katy Rotary Club fundraisers like The Katy Rice Festival and The Wild West Brewfest. This year the events are planned for:
