Law enforcement authorities arrested Christopher Calob Batiste, Datavian Lee McDonald, Jadarious Jaymond Polley and an unnamed minor April 30. The foursome has been charged with the April 29 aggravated robbery of the Shipley Do-Nuts location at 1997 Katy Mills Blvd., Ste. 100 according to a Katy Police Department press release.

“The Katy Police Department, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety conducted a collaborative investigation, located two stolen pick-up trucks, and conducted surveillance in Harris and Ft. Bend County,” the press release said.

Katy Police Chief Noe Diaz said the minor was 16 years old and it is currently unknown if there were any gang affiliations among the suspects. The group is also being charged with engaging in organized criminal activity.

No injuries were reported in the incident at the donut shop, Diaz said. However, the press release from his department said the men are also suspected of robbing another business near the intersection of Grand Parkway and Cinco Ranch Boulevard in Fort Bend County, and may be associated with other similar crimes that have occurred in the area recently. The suspects are accused of taking all of the cash from the register while holding the employees at gunpoint, then robbing the employees of their personal property before fleeing the scene.

“The males held employees at gunpoint while they took cash from the register and robbed employees of their personal belongings,” the statement read. “The robbers then fled in two separate pick-up trucks that were stolen earlier in the morning from nearby residential subdivisions.”

Law enforcement was able to recover two stolen vehicles which had been taken from subdivisions near the donut shop shortly before the robbery. They also recovered two semiautomatic pistols, the press release said.

Diaz said the investigation was aided by the new cameras the city has placed to monitor for stolen vehicles and track vehicle movements near crimes. The cameras helped to identify the vehicles the suspects were using, he said.

“The arrests happened today at about 6 a.m. at FM 529 and Westgreen,” Diaz said.

Diaz said he was pleased with the way his officers and those of the FBCSO and TXDPS worked together to make the arrests happen and continue to work as the joint investigation moves forward.

"It was an incredible collaborative effort between our office, state police and the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office,” Diaz said. “The police functioned like it should, you know, the partnership was amazing.”
