A kitchen fire in the Katy Mills Mall food court compelled a two-hour evacuation of the mall Monday afternoon.
Katy Fire Marshall Gregg Peterson said the fire began in the Fuwa restaurant kitchen, and was contained to the hood system.
The mall’s smoke alarm system went off and the mall was evacuated.
Peterson said firefighters from the Willowfork Fire Department and Harris County Emergency Services District 48 worked with the Katy Fire Department to put out the fire. Authorities are reinspecting and checking for hood damage.
Nobody was hurt and the mall was reopened at about 6 p.m. Monday, Peterson said.
