Katy ISD well represented at state swimming and diving meets

Katy ISD qualified five regional champions and eight relay teams to the UIL state swimming and diving championships at the Bill Walker Pool and Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio. The boys compete Feb. 26-27 and the girls compete March 1-2.

Katy ISD qualified five regional champions and eight relay teams to the UIL state swimming and diving championships at the Bill Walker Pool and Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio. The boys compete Feb. 26-27 and the girls compete March 1-2.

Here are the state qualifiers by school. Regional champions, and the events that they won, are in bold type:

>> Cinco Ranch: junior Brandon Guo (100-yard freestyle, 46.18); boys 200-yard freestyle relay (1:24.35); boys 400-yard freestyle relay (3:08.69).

>> Jordan: freshman Kaeli White (500-yard freestyle, 5:04.39).

>> Paetow: sophomore Kaleb Velazquez (diving, 353.95 points).

>> Seven Lakes: sophomore Kailey Koval (diving, 396 points); senior Maddie Welborn (200-yard freestyle, 1:49.20; 100-yard freestyle, 50.98); junior Gracelyn Cox (100-yard breaststroke, 1:04.83); girls 200-yard medley relay (1:47.52); senior Justin Liao (100-yard breaststroke, 57.47).

>> Taylor: senior Abbie Alvarez (200-yard individual medley, 2:05.28; 100-yard butterfly, 55.06); senior Roxana Nolte (500-yard freestyle, 5:00.01); girls 400-yard freestyle relay (3:32.28); girls 200-yard freestyle relay (1:37.77); sophomore Mariana Diaz Ponce (100-yard breaststroke, 1:04.90); senior Amy Evans (100-yard breaststroke, 1:04.97); girls 200-yard medley relay (1:46.71);; sophomore Logan Pack (50-yard freestyle, 21.12); boys’ 200-yard medley relay (1:34.59).

>> Tompkins: junior Matthew Aigner (diving, 435.50 points); boys 200-yard medley relay (1:34.43); senior Drew Ladner (50-yard freestyle, 21.10; 100-yard freestyle, 46.10).
