Katy City Council members met in what may have been the fastest meeting in the governing body’s history at about only three minutes. During the rapid-fire meeting, the regular July 26 meeting was cancelled due to a lack of a quorum.

Council Member Rory Robertson said he and Mayor Bill Hastings would be traveling Monday, making them unavailable to attend the meeting. As a result, not enough council members would be available to conduct city business, so a special meeting had been held to cover essential items that could not wait until the next regular meeting set for Aug. 9.

Mayor Pro Tem Chris Harris expedited the meeting by motioning to approve the three agenda items requiring a vote from council. Those items, one of which was the July 26 meeting were unanimously approved.

Council also authorized Hastings to sign documentation required civil rights compliance documents associated with money received by the city from the Treasury Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund and required by the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

They also authorized Fort Bend-Waller Counties Municipal Utility District No. 3 to issue $4.35 million in bonds for activities in the Young Ranch subdivision. The issuance of the bond was approved by the MUD’s voters in May of 2015.
