Jordan advanced in the playoffs and kept its historic season going on Friday, beating Stratford 31-10 in the Class 6A-Division II Area Round and advancing to the third round or the first time in school history.
The Warriors came out strong in the game and scored on their first drive when Tanner West ran in a 1-yard touchdown. Stratford got on the board with a field goal in the first half, but Dominic Cangolosi added a second score for Jordan shortly before halftime when he threw a 23-yard touchdown to Landon Williams. Jordan kept things going in the second half as Tanner West scored on a 10-yard run early in the third quarter before Jordan tacked on a field goal from 37-yards out later in the quarter. Stratford added a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but West put the game away with just under three minutes remaining by running in a 33-yard touchdown that gave Jordan a three-possession lead.
The Warriors were led by West, who had the best game of his career on the ground in a huge moment. West ran for 202 yards and three touchowns, averaging over 8.5 yards per carry in the game, while also leading Jordan in receiving, catching five balls for 57 yards.
Cangolosi had a good day at quarterback, completing 14 of 17 passes for 139 yards and a score, but also throwing an interception, he also added 58 yards on the ground on eight carries. Landon Williams caught five passes for 57 yards and a score, while Andrew Marsh had four catches for 17 yards.
Defensively, the Warriors were dominant. Jordan had five interceptions in the game, two coming from Roc Tnpenny while Jeremy Alo-Perry, Austin Baird and Kaelen Vilarson all came away with interceptions. Naethan Sauseda and Owen Lindsey both came away with sacks, while Sauceda had two tackles for loss. Mason Baird had eight tackles, while Alo-Perry had seven.
The Warriors will face Summer Creek in the on a big stage, facing the Bulldogs 6 p.m. Friday at NRG Stadium. The Bulldogs are 10-2 on the year and come off a 49-7 win over Manvel in the area round.
