There’s some changes at Jordan this year.

There are new faces in the quarterback room, players stepping up at different positions and a team full of people ready to prove themselves.

But one thing hasn’t changed at Jordan, and that is that to be successful, you want to get Andrew Marsh the football.

That’s what the Warriors did on Thursday in their season opener, the senior Michigan commit had four catches and he made them count, catching four passes for 169 yards and two touchowns, while also returning a kickoff for a touchdown as Jordan opened the season with a 66-20 win over Cy-Creek.

“It was a great win, and we came out and did exactly what we planned to do to start the season,” Marsh said. “We just need to build on it. We can’t get too high after something like this, this is what we have to expect from ourselves. Now we have to take it and continue to build towards the rest for the season.”

It took Jordan no time to make a statement in the game, the defense forced a turnover deep in Cy-Creek territory on the opening possession of the game and Jordan’s offense needed just two plays to cash in, as Beau Bryant kept a read option and took it 14-yards for the opening score of the game.

The Warriors kept going. Bryant added a passing touchdown later in the first quarter to Marsh and Dominic Cangolosi got in on the action in the second quarter, rushing in a 4-yard score before throwing an 82-yard touchdown pass to Marsh, with Tanner West adding an 8-yard touchdown run and Marsh returning a kickoff for a touchdown before the end of the half to bring Jordan’s lead to 45-7 heading into the locker room.

The Warriors have had a quarterback battle through the spring and summer and took a unique approach to the game substituting their two quarterback’s, Cangolosi and Bryant, every play during the game. Both quarterbacks did well with the substituting as well, Cangolosi completed nine of 12 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown while adding 15 rushing yards and a touchdown and Bryant completed three of six passes for 56 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 47 yards and a touchdown.

“They both are my guys man and I love the way they compete,” Marsh said. “They both put so much work in this offseason and summer and no matter who’s out there it just feels normal. It almost felt like practice out there honestly. I’m excited to see them both keep going, I know they’ll both be a big part of this season.”

Jordan added three more touchdowns in the second half, two from Zion Jones, who scored on a run and a kick return, and another when Zachary Taylor intercepted a pass and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown.

While the offense had a strong day, it was the defense that was the story and continues to show how special it can be this year. The Warriors only allowed 153 yarrds in total and much of that was with second stringers in during the second half. They also forced three turnoversand made plays all over the field in the win.

“It’s a lot of the same starters from last year on defense and I think that’s really helped us because we all know each other, we all communicate and we all know our jobs,” Taylor said. “We work well together and got really close over the summer and going through all of that already just helps us a lot, I think. We can be a really special group this year.”

Jordan will try to carry this momentum into their next matchup against Fort Bend Travis. That will be the Warriors final tune up before district and they know how important it is to keep things going in the right direction.

“We’re going to enjoy this one and remind our guys how important it is to start the season off right and then we’ll get back to work tomorrow,” said Jordan head coach Mike Rabe. “They’ve had that focus since the start of the season and I don’t expect it to change. As long as we do that the skies the limit.”
