Hugh C. Gillis of Katy, Texas passed away on Monday, February 22, 2021, following a brief illness. He was born June 29, 1930, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the son of Andrew J. and Catherine Gillis.
Hugh graduated from Holy Family High School and earned a BS in Business Management from Providence College. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954. He was employed in the property and casualty insurance field for many years with Maryland Casualty Company and American General Fire and Casualty in various claim management positions. His assignment took place in Boston, Buffalo, Harrisburg, Houston and Baltimore.
He was predeceased by his wife of over 63 years, Esther Frances Harrington Gillis; son, Thomas A. Gillis; parents, Andrew J. and Catherine Gillis; brother, Donald A. Gillis; and sisters, Elizabeth Gardner and Teresa Bowler.
He is survived by his children, Catherine Gillis, Colin Gillis and his wife Denise, Rosemary Buetikofer and her husband Clifford, and Esther Finley and her husband Sean; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church, in Katy, where mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Joe Methanath, Celebrant,
