Harris named to Katy Prairie Conservancy advisory board

Posted

Katy City Council Member-at-Large and Mayor Pro Tem Chris Harris was elected to the Katy Prairie Conservancy advisory board on November 16. Conservancy CEO Mary Ann Piacentini leads the land trust that protects approximately 24,500 acres of the Katy Prairie, including the Nelson rice farm, Warren cattle ranch and thousands of acres of wetlands for migratory birds and wildlife.

Since 1992, the Conservancy has been working to preserve the Prairie for people and wildlife, and is one of the largest local land conservation organizations by acreage in Southeast Texas. Long-term goals are to protect additional acreage on the Katy Prairie and lower watershed and restoring land for upland and wetland wildlife.

“I am honored to serve on the Katy Prairie Conservancy advisory board,” Harris said. “My family and I have volunteered for several years at the Conservancy and I know the positive importance of the organization with the Katy area.”
