Girl Scout Troop 127018, comprised of dedicated Juniors, has achieved the prestigious Girl Scout Bronze Award by creating and distributing "care Kits for kids," said the troop’s Bronze Award sponsor, Anshwa Lewis, in an August 18 email to the Katy Times. “These are the first Bronze Awardees of our multi-level troop.”
“These thoughtful care packages are designed to brighten the days of children undergoing inpatient stays at hospitals,” said Lewis. The troop's first delivery took place at Texas Children's Hospital’s West Campus, located in Katy at 18200 Katy Freeway, on August 13. The kits include coloring books, sensory toys, and other engaging activities to keep young patients entertained during their hospital stays.
“Our troop’s goal is to put smiles on the faces of these brave kids and provide them with a sense of comfort," said Lewis.
Local sponsors who generously donated to the first round of Care Kits included Chick-fil-A Katy North (Morton Ranch and Elyson locations), Katy Park H-E-B at Katy Park at 24924 Morton Road in Katy and Target Katy Elyson at 22165 FM 529.
In a collaborative effort, Troop 127018 partnered with Reed Deed Run, an initiative at Katy ISD’s King Elementary School, located at 1901 Charlton House Lane in Katy, to ensure the sustainability of the program beyond their initial delivery. By working together, they aim to create a lasting impact on the lives of hospitalized children, Lewis said.
In addition to Lewis, the effort was led by troop leader LaQuanna Grant. Troop members and bronze awardees are:
· Micaiah Spencer
· Tycen Cobb
· Klaire Grant
· Kennedy Aikin
· Makaela Pickens
· Gabrielle Hampton
