October is a month for celebration in Katy, and it began Saturday morning with the annual Katy Rice Festival Parade held in downtown Katy.

Clear skies and mild temperatures made for an enjoyable experience, with cheerleaders, local nonprofit groups, first responders and local dignitaries greeting onlookers.

The festival itself is from 6-10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and 12-6 p.m. Sunday in downtown Katy. Admission is free on Friday. Tickets are $10 for adults and free for children 12 and under Saturday and Sunday.

A shuttle bus service will run between downtown and the Merrell Center, 6301 S. Stadium Dr. on Saturday and Sunday.

The festival features craft vendors, food trucks, and lives music, among other attractions. The festival has been a Katy tradition for decades.

The festival is also looking for more volunteers. For more information, visit the website katyricefestival.com.
