Fort Bend County Judge KP George said Thursday that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
George said he decided to get tested after his daughter returned home for the Christmas holiday this week and showed COVID-19-related symptoms.
George said he is fully vaccinated and took his recommended booster shot. He said he has not previously experienced or shown COVID-19-related symptoms.
Last month, George was taken to Memorial Hermann Sugar Land hospital for emergency surgery to remove a kidney stone.
George said he was in isolation at home following his test results, but speaks with his staff and other county officials to ensure business as usual for the county.
“I encourage our Fort Bend County residents who are eligible to get vaccinated, and for those who meet the requirements to take the booster because it is absolutely our best defense against this virus,” George said in a statement.
George’s announcement comes as the county on Wednesday raised its COVID-19 risk level to orange, or significant risk. As of Thursday morning, the county reported having 91,217 active COVID-19 cases. The county said that women account for approximately 52% of the cases, while men account for approximately 48%.
