UPDATE APRIL 3:

Distribution of the disinfectant was again halted at the end of the day April 2, according to Major Chad Norvell of the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office.

Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls said the program was ending because the county had not provided funding for the program which he felt was important because it is difficult to find disinfectant solution in retailers.

UPDATE MARCH 25:

After a brief pause while county officials sorted out how to pay for supplies to continue distributing Sodium Hypochlorite, to Fort Bend County residents, the process restarted March 25, a Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office press release said. The release said that private sector donors had helped restart the distribution which had been reduced to only county employees for a short time.

Distribution of the disinfectant solution – which is only for use on surfaces and should not be used on people or animals – is ongoing at the Gus George Law Enforcement Academy located at 1521 Heimann Circle in Richmond.

“We see what this virus is doing to other parts of the country and it’s crucial we try to stay ahead of it,” said Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls when distribution first started. “Do your part and pick up your bottle. We will get through this together.”

Distribution of the product takes place seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include a 32-ounce bottle of the solution and a one-gallon refill container.

Residents are asked to provide a valid state of Texas driver’s license when picking up the product. Those who are elderly or homebound can reach out to the You Are Not Alone program – commonly referred to as YANA – and request assistance via telephone at 281-341-9262 or via email at yana@fortbendcountytx.gov.
