Eugene Henry Matura, Sr. was born on August 15, 1939 in Dubina, Texas to Henry and Blasta Valicek Matura.  On June 25, 1961, he married Regina Lillie Vornsand in Weimar, Texas.  Gene has lived in Katy since 1951, where he was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council.   He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and spending time with family.

Eugene Henry Matura, Sr. passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020 in Houston, Texas at the age of 80 years.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Regina Matura of Katy; sons, Eugene H. “Junior” Matura, Jr., of Katy and James Emil Matura and his wife Tammy of Lampasas; grandchildren, Luke Dunk and his wife Chelsea of Adamsville, Texas, Cade Matura and his wife Connie of Monaville, Texas, Callen Roundtree and his wife Lyndi of Katy and Jake Matura of Lampasas; great granddaughter, Azalie Dunk of Adamsville, Texas; brother, Ernest Matura of Schulenburg; sisters, Evelyn Meyer of Schulenburg and Gladys Machicek of Schulenburg, and Edith Hartensteiner of Sugar Land; and numerous other loving family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Blasta Valicek Matura; and by a brother, Ervin Matura.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at the Schmidt Funeral Home East Avenue Chapel, in Katy, where a rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday with Deacon Fred Dinges reciting.  Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, in Katy, with Rev. Christopher Plant, Celebrant.  Interment in Katy Magnolia Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jake Matura, Cade Matura, Luke Dunk, Callen Roundtree, Brad Lux, and Jason McNeely.

Honorary pallbearers will be Chelsea Dunk, Connie Matura, Azalie Dunk, Lyndi Roundtree, and Vince Morelli, Perry Sword and Terry Pope.
