Katy ISD Virtual School registration opens Feb. 1

Registration for Katy ISD Virtual School, which permits high school students to take advanced courses, opens Feb. 1.

Texas Chili Cookoff, to benefit Katy ISD FFA, set for Feb. 11

The Texas Chili cookoff, benefiting the Katy ISD FFA, is set for 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 11 at the American Furniture Warehouse parking lot, 500 Pin Oak Rd.

Cost to register a team or business booth is $200. Sponsorships are still available, ranging from $500-$2,500.

Celebrity and community judges will evaluate the food and booths.

Katy native named to Marquette University dean’s list

Maggie Pierce of Katy has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2022 semester at Marquette University in Milwaukee. Pierce is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in finance.

To make the dean’s list, students must have earned at least 12 credits for the fall 2022 semester and have no disqualifying grades. The GPA threshold varies by college.

Cinco Ranch graduate named to Northern Illinois University dean’s list

Jacob Conacher, a Cinco Ranch High School graduate, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2022 semester at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

To make the dean’s list, students must meet a minimum semester grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology or a minimum of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale in the colleges of Business, Education, Health and Human Sciences, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Visual and Performing Arts. Conacher is majoring in software development.

Katy High director wins award

Charlie Woods, Katy High School technical director, has won the 2023 Texas Thespians Trailblazer Award.

Woods will receive his award at the Texas Thespians Educator Conference in Rockwall. According to its website, Texas Thespians, an affiliate chapter of the Educational Theater Association (EDTA), is the largest such chapter in the nation. Chapters support the mission of the Educational Theatre Association’s student honor organization, the International Thespian Society.
