DQ helps Texas celebrate National Root Beer Float Day

Posted

National Root Beer Float Day is on Friday, Aug. 6, and Dairy Queen’s across Texas will be celebrating the day by offering their very own rendition of the classic root beer float. Dairy Queen’s spin on the root beer float will feature Dairy Queen vanilla ice cream literally ‘floating’ in the root beer drink.

DQ offers the float year-round, but on its national day, it is a must on the menu.

The “Black Cow,” another name for the root beer float, was first created in 1874 in Philadelphia by Robert McCay Green.

Historians note that Green first came up with the idea when his soda shop ran out of ice, and so he used ice cream to chill his drinks, creating the first-ever root beer float.

Having a root beer float on National Root Beer Float Day can be a way to combat the Texas Summer heat, while simultaneously celebrating our nation’s traditions.

The Dairy Queen full menu is available in-store, drive-thru, and online ordering. You can also download the free Texas Dairy Queen Mobile App to view the treats and eats that are available.
