Delma Garner Jacks, 92, went home to her beloved Savior on September 21, 2020. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 27, 1928 to Dale and Lillie Garner who preceded her, as did her sister, Dorothy, and brother, Lewis. Delma graduated from Tech High School in San Antonio, 1944, and the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in 1949, where she served on the Board of Trustees.

Delma taught school 31 years before fulfilling her call to the mission field. She taught ESL in China, Thailand, and Senegal, West Africa. Following her husband’s retirement from the ministry, together they served in the Philippines, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Belgium, and England. Delma was never ashamed to share her love for Jesus; she had a heart for winning the lost and loving the poor and downcast.

She leaves behind her husband of 73 years, Claude W. Jacks, Jr, and four children: Claudia Flora; Melanie (Bob) Hilburn; Jeff (Karen) Jacks, and Kevin (Teresa) Jacks; grandchildren, Kris Kervin, Aaron Coronis, Melissa McFarlin, Laura Long,  Kevin Grant Jacks, Garrett Jacks, and Hunter Jacks; 19 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

A special thank you to the staff of Caydance Assisted Living and Brenda Dineen, Hospice Nurse, Accredited Hospice, for their loving care and concern for Delma during her final days.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Katy’s First Baptist Church, 600 Pin Oak Road, Katy, Texas, where a Celebration of Delma’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. A private family burial will take place at Houston National Cemetery in Houston.

For those wishing to honor her memory, an educational scholarship in her name, Delma Garner Jacks has been established at University of Mary-Hardin Baylor: UMHB, Box 8433, 900 College St. Belton, TX 76513.
