Flag retirement ceremony set for Nov. 5

The Star of Destiny Chapter of the National Society for the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Boy Scout Troop 925, will hold a flag retirement ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 5 at Katy Community Cemetery (also known as Antioch Community Cemetery), FM 1463 and Stockdick Road. The public is invited to the ceremony.

Members Choice Credit Union to hold “Gather, Get and Give” event

Members Choice Credit Union (MCCU) invites the community to a food drive and shred event from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Nov. 5 at its office at 18211 Katy Fwy.

At the event, people can “gather” information about the credit union’s “Helping Heroes Loan” program, which offers discounted rates to medical professionals, law enforcement, active duty, veterans, first responders and teachers. People can also “get” their papers shredded, and “give” food donations to Katy Christian Ministries.

Those donating to the food drive will be eligible to win from a pool of $500 in gift cards. There will also be promotional product discounts, giveaways, breakfast, and a hot chocolate bar.

Wreaths Across America ceremony set for Dec. 17

The American Legion Auxiliary Post 164 in Katy is promoting the Wreaths Across America, an activity in which wreaths are placed on the graves of service members. The local ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Dec. 17 at Katy Magnolia Cemetery, 6801 Franz Road.

Fort Bend Junior Service League accepting core placement applications, awards grants

The Fort Bend Junior Service League is accepting applications from local qualifying 501(c)3 organizations to be considered as a Core Placement for its 2023-2025 league years. This process occurs every two years.

The league serves Fort Bend County and its people through volunteerism and charitable fundraising. Application and position statements may be found at fbjsl.org. Applications are due Jan. 31, 2023. For more information, contact the league at communityservice@fbjsl.com.

The league also announced that it has awarded Community Assistance Fund (CAF) grants to Bo’s Place and Three Graces.

Bo’s Place has been awarded $5,000 to help with food, snacks, welcome bags and book bags. Bo’s Place is a non-profit bereavement support center that exists to enhance the lives of those who have experienced the death of a loved one.

Faith West to hold Holiday Market Nov. 5

Faith West Academy will hold its fourth annual holiday market from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 5 at the academy gymnasium, 2225 Porter Road. The market includes an art show, carolers, face painting, mimosas and muffins and pictures with Santa from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Funds raised go for scholarships.

Katy Christian Ministries seeking sponsors for its Santa Sleigh program

Katy Christian Ministries is seeking sponsors for its Santa’s Sleigh program., which helps financially struggling families during the holiday season.

Registration is open to all children of parents who are registered with KCM and who live in one of these zip codes: 77084, 77094, 77407, 77406, 77423, 77441, 77449, 77450, 77464, 77476, 77485, 77493 and 77494.
