Before joining Mayde Creek, Carter was the head football coach at Westside. He was also an assistant coach of state championship teams in Texas City and La Marque and coached three different teams to state or regional championships in powerlifting. Being named the Texas High School Powerlifting Association’s strength coach of the year in 1999 and 2004 and serving as president of the association from 2004-2005.
