Get ready to cultivate your passion for gardening with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension of Fort Bend County! Applications are now open for the fall 2024 Extension Master Gardener training class.
The 12-week training program kicks off with Orientation on Thursday, Aug. 29, followed by weekly sessions every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., concluding just in time for Thanksgiving. Featuring remote instruction by esteemed professors and Extension specialists from across Texas, supplemented by insights from experienced Master Gardeners, this training covers everything from lawns to insects.
Graduates of the program join a dedicated community of Master Gardeners committed to serving as volunteer Extension educators. Through 50 hours of approved volunteer service within eight months, Master Gardeners make a meaningful impact in their local communities by sharing their knowledge and passion for gardening. Once certified and to remain certified, Master Gardeners have to submit to 24 volunteer service hours and 12 continuing hours on a yearly basis.
"We're looking for enthusiastic individuals who are eager to learn, connect with diverse groups, and make a difference in the community," says Brandy Rader, Program Coordinator.
Class size is limited. The tuition is $250 per individual and $420 per couple (share a manual). Applications accompanied by payment will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis, with preference given to Fort Bend County residents. Please note that all applicants must pass a background check as part of the selection process. The deadline to register is 2 p.m. Friday, July 19. Secure your spot today and grow with us!
