Annie Marie “Ann” Stryk Cerny was born on September 30, 1932 in Praha, Texas to John Charles Stryk and Anastazia Migl Stryk.

Annie married the love of her life, Stanley on July 27, 1953 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Praha, after his discharge from the Korean War. They settled in Houston, where she became the proud and caring mother of two children, Sharon and Gary. During her time in Houston, she was employed by Nabisco, and later, after moving to Spring Branch, she became an accomplished seamstress with Everett Beulow. After many years at Everett Beulow, she developed her own alteration business in her home. From this business, she made many long lasting friendships. She was a member of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Catholic Church in Katy, where she was a member of the Happy Hearts. She was a 75+ year member of the KJZT Society and The Praha Altar Society. She enjoyed kolaches and other Czech dishes, attending church picnics, polka dances and an “occasional” trip to the casino. She loved all these things, but she loved her family and friends even more.

Annie Marie “Ann” Stryk Cerny passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2020 in Katy, Texas after a courageous battle with cancer at 87 years of age.

She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Stanley; her daughter, Sharon and her husband David Crowe; her son, Gary and his wife Robin Cerny; her grandchildren, Julie and her husband Jack Perry, and Colton Cerny; her great grandchildren, Jackson, Annie, Maggie Perry; her sister Martha Sitka; and many other loving family members and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her four brothers, John, Joe, Jimmie, and Ernest; and by her four sisters, Agnes, Tracy, Mary, and Georgie.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2020 at the Schmidt Funeral Home Grand Parkway Chapel, in Katy, and a rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., with Deacon Fred Dinges. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, in Katy, with Rev. Wayne Wilkerson, Celebrant. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, in Praha, Texas with Rev. Gabriel Maison and Rev. Wayne Wilkerson officiating.

Should you wish, memorial gifts may be made to the Praha Altar Society, c/o Robin Cerny, P.O. Box 402, Flatonia, Texas 78941.
