Counter led Morton Ranch to a 2-8 season this year with a 2-6 record in District 19-6A play. Morton Ranch broke a six-year playoff drought in 2022 when the Mavericks finished 7-4 and 5-3 in district play.

Montgomery, a senior, took home the gold medal in the boys finals of the Region III-6A meet, finishing five seconds clear of his nearest competitor, running the 5000 meters in 15 minutes, 11.39 seconds to finish first and clinch his spot at the state meet.
