William Don “Billy Don” Williams passed away on September 7, 2021, at his home in Katy, Texas.  He was born May 3, 1937, in Rosenberg, TX to Lester Leon Williams and Ruth Mary Stockdick Williams.  He graduated from Katy High School in 1955 and The University of Houston with a degree in Mathematics and would later achieve a Master of Mathematics degree from the University of Houston and a Masters of Combined Sciences from the University of Mississippi.  In 1959, he married Helen Louise Reue of Fulshear, TX, a union that lasted more than 61 years.

Billy Don taught high school mathematics at Katy High School and then became a guidance counselor at Katy High School, Taylor High School, and Mayde Creek High School. Throughout his life, he was involved in countless service organizations, including being very involved in the Katy Optimist Club, where he served at one point as president.  He was a volunteer coach for Little League Baseball and participated as a leader and a teacher in his church.  He was a member of the Texas Personnel and Guidance Association and at one time served as its president.  As an active member of his church, he participated in leadership positions and was a beloved teacher.  He loved singing in church choirs and being a part of that joyful noise.

After he retired from counseling, he spent several years serving as KISD Testing Coordinator and was instrumental in starting KISD’s GED program.  Billy Don’s retirement dream was to spend time (in his words) as a “gentleman rancher”.  He spent those years doing just that and loved spending time in “The Bottom” surrounded by dogs and cows.  More than anything, he treated every person and every creature like they mattered, like they were important in this world.

Billy Don is preceded in death by his parents Lester and Ruth Williams and his infant son Reggie.  He is survived by his wife Helen Williams, his daughter Shelli Williams, his son Donnie Williams and wife Sara, along with a large extended family and a host of friends.

Billy Don leaves a heritage of unending faith and devotion to his family.  He spent a great deal of time at the family farm, furthering the legacy of his parents but also leaving a legacy of love and devotion to the earth and God’s creatures.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14 at Schmidt Funeral Home, Grand Parkway, Katy.  A Celebration of Billy Don’s life will be held at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, Houston on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., with a graveside service following at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, Houston.

Memorial gifts may be made to Memorial Drive United Methodist Church or a church or charity of your choice.
