Walter Raymond Ramsey child of Cary William Ramsey and Mildred Irene Rogge was born on October 18, 1934 in Dayton, Ohio.
While Walter (Walt) was still in his youth, his family relocated to California. Here he attended public schools and graduated from Verdugo Hills High School. He attended San Jose State after graduating and enjoyed playing college football. In fact, he enjoyed football so much he even once tried out to play professionally for the Baltimore Colts. He didn’t make the team, but did continue to enjoy watching football and cheering for his favorite team – the LA Rams. The next part of Walt’s life was in service to his country. The US was involved in the Korean War and he was drafted into the 9th Infantry of the US Army. He served two years in the Army and was honorably discharged. Upon discharge, He extended his service with two more years in the Navy Reserves.
For his career after the military, Walt worked for several insurance companies in California finally retiring from Argonaut Insurance Company after twenty plus years in the field. Around this time his youngest son, Patrick, was graduating high school and desired to go into business himself. Being a wonderful Father, Walt decided to encourage and support his son as a partner in the business. In 2001 they started Pat & Dad’s Pool Service. For 5 years they worked alongside each other in California and then in 2006 they took their business to Texas in hopes of finding more affordable housing. The business they started together continues to thrive in Katy, TX.
Walt enjoyed many things during his lifetime like football and sweets (especially Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups which his grandchildren still enjoy sneaking). Above all he cared for his family and friends. He was quick with a smile and joke and never afraid of a little hard work. If you needed someone to be there than Walt was your man and he would come dressed in a shirt with a funny saying nearly every time. One of his joys in life included serving as a volunteer for the Brea County Police Department. He also enjoyed his time in Bible Studies and church. His humor, hard work, servant nature, and faithfulness are beautiful legacies he has passed down to his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Johanna “Molly” Ramsey; daughter, Alexandria and son Patrick Ramsey and Pat’s wife April; grandchildren, Sean and Lily.
Walter was predeceased by his parents, Cary William Ramsey and Mildred Irene Coughenour Ramsey; sisters, Shirley and Joan
