Tompkins swept past Elkins in the bi-district round of the playoffs behind two strong wins. As the Falcons continue a dominant season by advancing to the area round.

Game one was a show from Tompkins ace Trevor Esparza and the Falcons offense. Esparza pitched all seven innings in a complete game shutout, allowing five hits and striking out four while waking two. The Tompkins offense meanwhile put together 12 runs on nine hits, including multiple RBI games from three players.

The Falcons took the lead early when they got back-to-back bases loaded walks in the top of the first inning, and then went up 3-0 in the top of the second when Jack Little drove in a run on a triple.

Things stayed close until the sixth inning, when Tompkins broke the game open. Little got things started in the inning by driving in a run on a single and the Falcons got another run off an error directly after. Landon West followed that up with an two RBI single and Ty Dagley and Adam Benavidez both drove in runs on singles to cap off the inning and make it 9-0 Falcons.

Tompkins finished the game off in the seventh, as Cash Russell hit a sacrifice grounder, Drew Markle walked with the bases loaded and Ty Dagley hit an RBI single before Esparza pitched a clean bottom of the inning to end things.

In game two the Falcons used a collaborative approach on the mound to win things, as Solomon Rotberg and Michael De Battista combined to help Tompkins to a 5-2 win over Elkins.

Rotberg started the game and went six innings, allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out three and walking three, before De Battista came in to close things out in the seventh and allowed just one hit.

Elkins took the lead in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly and they held that until the fifth inning. But Tompkins came back, the Falcons got two runners on to start the fifth and Markle cashed in on an opportunity at the plate by driving in both with a single, giving Tompkins the lead. Landon West followed that up with a double to drive in another. Judson Collier then hit an RBI single to make things 4-1 Tompkins.

Little finished the scoring for Tompkins in the sixth with an RBI double. Rotberg, who pitch a great game, walked the first two batters of the inning before De Battista came in and finished the game off as Tompkins came away with the win.

The Falcons advance to play Lamar in a three game series, with the first game being played 7 p.m. Thursday at Tompkins, the second being played at 7 p.m. at Delmar on Friday and the third being played at 7 p.m. Saturday at Stratford if needed.
