Tigers highlight 19-6A all-district softball honors

Tigers highlight 19-6A all-district softball honors

Katy High won its sixth consecutive outright district title this season, and therefore dominated the 19-6A all-district softball superlative awards.

Junior catcher Kailey Wyckoff, a Fresno State signee, was named 19-6A’s Most Valuable Player as a clutch hitter and terrific backstop for the district champs. Freshman ace/slugger Cameryn Harrison was a revelation with her power-hitting at the plate and intensity in the circle and was named Newcomer of the Year. Longtime coach Kalum Haack earned Coach of the Year honors as his young, precocious club rolled through the district with a 12-0 record.

Cinco Ranch freshman Faith Piper was named Defensive Player of the Year. Tompkins sophomore Morgan Brown was named Offensive Player of the Year.

Tompkins finished second in district play this season at 9-3. Cinco Ranch was third at 8-4, and Seven Lakes, Taylor and Mayde Creek all tied for fourth at 4-8.

Seven Lakes won a round-robin play-in tournament for the fourth seed.

The following are the all-district teams by position.

In Class 5A, Paetow finished 7-7 in District 19-5A, in its third year of varsity play, and only one win shy of making the playoffs in a hotly-contested district.

Junior Sade Guerra, sophomore Samantha Guillory and freshman Alexis Rodriguez earned 19-5A all-district first team recognition. Seniors Angelina Gonzales and Keegan Lanzerio were named to the second team.

Honorable mention all-district selections were senior Bella Gonzales, junior Peyton Luna and sophomore Jade Catherwood.
