Steve Gates of Sealy, Texas went to be with the Lord on February 13, 2023. Steve was born October 10, 1936, in Barre, Vermont to Gordon and Louva Gates. Steve was 86 years young.
Steve is survived by his wife Georgia Gates, son John Bunce, daughter Debbie Tangen, grandchildren David (Colleen) Carroll and Danny Carroll and great-grandchildren Ethan and Will Carroll. Steve is also survived by his son Shane Gates and his sisters Mary Lou Williamson and Sue Perry.
Steve was preceded in death by his son David Gates, his sister Jane Capizzi, and his parents Gordon and Louva Gates.
Steve was not born in Texas, but he loved to say that he got here as quickly as he could. After high school, Steve served our country in the US Navy before moving to Oklahoma and beginning a 36-year career with Grainger where he forged many long-lasting friendships. After his retirement from Grainger, Steve seldom stood still and continued productively contributing to society – whether it was mentoring others, delivering newspapers to his neighbors in Sealy or raising his beloved miniature long-horn cattle.
Steve was an avid marksman. He loved to shoot, but not to kill; for Steve was a lover of life. He was always up for an adventure and had an incurable sense of curiosity – almost as big as his love of chocolate pie. Steve’s love of life was contagious, and he met every person with a smile and that trademark “How ya doing?” that could get a response from anyone age 3 to 103.
Steve’s life will be celebrated at 3:00 PM on Saturday February 25, 2023 at Midway BBQ, 6025 Highway Blvd, Katy Texas 77494.
