Southland's McGhee selected for USA Volleyball Board

Jenny McGhee, senior associate commissioner for external operations for the Southland Conference since July 2017, has been appointed to the USA Volleyball Board of Directors as its High Performance representative. McGhee has worked for the Southland Conference in multiple capacities since 2008 and will replace departing director Kristin Fasbender.

“(McGhee) will bring a wealth of experience to the board as a former volleyball student-athlete and with her involvement as the administrator in the Southland Conference responsible for Indoor and Beach Volleyball competition,” said Cecile Reynaud, chair of the USA Volleyball Board of Directors. “We look forward to having her join the board immediately.”

McGhee will finish out the remainder of Fasbender’s term and will then be eligible to run for the same position when the current term expires June 2021.

McGhee’s responsibilities include administrator for women’s indoor volleyball, beach volleyball, and men’s and women’s golf, according to a Southland Conference press release.

McGhee, who was a member of the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Committee from 2015-2019, serves as the liaison to the conference’s senior woman administrators, student-athlete advisory committees and the conference’s association with multi-rights team Van Wagner Sports and Entertainment. She oversees the promotion and marketing of the Southland Conference and its member institutions as well as the conference’s branding and licensing.

Prior to working for the Southland Conference, McGhee worked for the Texas Tornado Hockey Club from 2002-2008. She escalated up the company ladder holding positions of ticket operations executive, director of community relations and marketing partnerships, and vice president of corporate partnerships during her tenure.

McGhee played four years of varsity volleyball at Stephen F. Austin University, where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with marketing emphasis in 2001. After graduating from college, she coached for North Dallas Juniors Volleyball Club.

“It is an honor to join the USA Volleyball Board of Directors and contribute to the meaningful work of the board, the USA Volleyball staff and all of the athletes who we serve.  I am grateful to have the opportunity to give back to the sport that has given so much to me as a player, coach and administrator,” McGhee said.

Southland was forced to cancel the majority of the Southland Conference basketball tournaments in March when the COVID-19 pandemic began impacting the Greater Houston area directly.
