In January, schools participating in the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo’s School Art Program compete in district shows judged by the Show’s School Art Committee. The artwork is divided into three categories: elementary, junior high and high school. Best of Show, Gold Medal and Special Merit awards are selected in each category. All work is eligible for the Show’s School Art Auction.
Auction results are in, and Royal ISD celebrates two historic firsts in the art competition, the district announced in a February 21 press release:
· Kimberly Pedraza (Lot 11) – Royal ISD’s first repeat auction winner and the first student to earn a named spot as Reserve Champion Monochromatic
· Eric Hernandez (Lot 38) – Placed 6th in the Monochromatic category
With 16 monochromatic pieces in the auction this year, Royal High School Art teacher Steven Crawley said, "I am so proud of these two and every Royal ISD student who competed this year."
