Registration opens for ‘SEAT Advocacy Day’ at the State Capitol

Registration for Students Engaged in Advancing Texas 2025 Advocacy Day is officially open, organizers said in a March press release. No experience is necessary – the organization is coordinating transportation, food, and all necessary materials.

“This is your chance to make an impact at the Texas Capitol, meet with legislators, and gain hands-on policymaking experience,” the release said.

SEAT is organizing a full day in Austin on April 21st (a day many high school students have off) to speak with lawmakers, learn advocacy skills, and connect with other engaged students and organizations.

“We know that the news can get pretty overwhelming, especially right now, and we want to make engagement with legislators accessible and impactful for students,” the release said. “Our goal is to ensure every participant can meet with their legislator to discuss policies they care about while equipping them with tools to drive change beyond Advocacy Day. Additionally, we will have breakout groups for students to explore the various policy issues they will cover in meetings to prepare them.”

To prepare for Advocacy Day, SEAT will host a comprehensive legislative training session via Zoom and explain:

· How bills are passed (to give background on the process)

· Legislative priorities & identifying potential key allies

· How to effectively conduct meetings with lawmakers Sign up using the registration form at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeNp5YZwVz7Kze04M4Va7YENcT3Gc_JKJ64-w-KLY78bpryag/viewform and check out the tentative schedule at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KoFImah1Wp63tSiu0qSofkSv8QaHND9bLNtwqy2lVkQ/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.cbdymudvgfoq.
