Paetow’s boys and girls, and Jordan's girls starred at the District 19-5A track and field meet May 31-April 1 in Brenham.

The Panther girls took second overall with 113 points as a team. The Panther boys finished fourth with 68 points.

College Station swept the team titles.

For Paetow’s girls, Tumi Onaleye led the way. The senior won the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles and was a member of the Panthers’ first place 4x400 relay team. Onaleye’s time of 14.877 in the 100 hurdles is a school record.

Onaleye, a University of Pennsylvania signee, also finished second in the triple jump.

Paetow senior Missy Adeboyejo also had impressive performances, finishing second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 100 hurdles. Paetow’s 4x400 relay team of Jordan Ward, Onaleye, Kameron Butler and Adeboyejo took gold with a time of 4:13.605.

Jordan’s girls also had a strong showing at the district meet, finishing third as a team. The Warriors were led by freshman Tiyan Ogbeide, who won gold in the 400 meter dash and 800 meter dash. Ogbeide is the program’s first district champion in track and field.

All seven Jordan girls track and field athletes qualified for the area meet in two weeks.

On the boys side, Paetow finished fourth as a team and Jordan finished eighth.

Juniors Sultan Bakare and Charles Chukwu earned gold medals in the shot put and discus, respectively. Chukwu also had a silver in the shot put.

Other local notes:

>> Jordan freshman Addison Sutton ran a personal record of 5:16 to finish third in the 1600-meter run. Sutton also ran a personal record of 11:39 in the 3200-meter run, finishing third in that event as well.

>> Paetow’s Jordan Ward broke her own school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.441 seconds to place second.

>> Paetow’s 4x200 relay team of Sadae Sneed, Arianna Haygood, Ariel Haygood and Jasmyn Martin ran a time of 1:46.689 to break the school record in a third-place finish.

>> Paetow’s 4x100 relay team of Chidera Okeoma, Arianna Haygood, Ariel Haygood and Jasmyn Martin) ran a school-record time of 49.826 to finish second.
