Mavs’ Cotter overcomes to carve path to William Penn

Posted

Morton Ranch standout senior wrestler Brittany Cotter signed Jan. 11 to continue her athletic career at William Penn University in Iowa.

Since day one, Cotter has been nothing but passionate for the sport of wrestling. Family members say, “she eats, sleeps, and breathes it.” Throughout her wrestling career, though, Cotter has had multiple setbacks.

They include a broken collarbone and being a victim of Hurricane Harvey circumstances during her freshman year, a concussion suffered during her sophomore year, and pushing through the Epstein-Barr virus, rhabdomyolysis, and insomnia during her junior year. Now, in her senior year, she is dealing with the effects of a pandemic that has stunted her much-anticipated wrestling season.

While enduring those trials, however, Cotter always found the bright side to her ordeals and stayed positive and optimistic with a smile.

“With everything Brittany has gone through, no one would even notice because she always seems so happy, especially on the mat,” said her younger sister, Rachel.

Cotter gives thanks for all she has persevered through because, without them, she feels she would have never found the truth in the saying, “Good things come with time.”

Throughout her wrestling career and high school education, she has racked up a considerable number of impressive credentials: two-time National All-American, four-time Nationals placer, two-time state runner-up, three-time state qualifier, three-time district champion, and now a William Penn Statesman signee.

Cotter is just as successful off the mat. She is vice president of her Morton Ranch Class of 2021, an AP student, ASL Honor Society and Club president, a member of the National Honor Society and student council, and a Chick-Fil-A Leader Academy member and mascot.

Cotter appreciates growing up in Katy and carving the path for the “opportunity to reach greatness.” She also thanks her coaches, parents, sister, family, friends, and all her fans for helping her dreams come true.
