Klein High School Teacher Receives C-SPAN Teacher Fellowship

Posted

Evangeline Mitchell, a teacher at Klein High School in nearby Klein, Tex. was selected out of multiple applicants nationwide to participate in C-SPAN's 2020 Teacher Fellowship Program. Along with five other participants and C-SPAN's Education Relations team, Mitchell will be generating content for C-SPAN classroom – a free online resource for teachers – and the upcoming school year. Due to COVID-19, the four-week training session will be held virtually rather than in person in which educators can create project ideas and feature them on the C-SPAN Classroom website.

As a U.S. History teacher at Klein High School for close to 20 years, Mitchell is more than qualified for this position, said Craig McAndrew, director of C-SPAN Education Relations. On top of that, Mitchell has also worked with C-SPAN for several years with participation in the C-SPAN teacher conference and hosting the C-SPAN bus for students. She’s always shown creativity and unique ways of engaging students during the pandemic, said McAndrew, as well as a dedication to her teachings.

“With the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to online learning, Evangeline showed creativity and initiative in her approach to teaching and engaging students,” said McAndrew. “We look forward to working with Evangeline as we offer support and options for educators and students as they navigate these uncertain times."

The Fellowship will begin on July 6 and will end July 31 while coinciding with C-SPAN's virtual Summer Educators’ Conference. During these conference, Mitchell and other teachers will present ideas on how they will use C-SPAN in classrooms. Educators who are interested in teaching opportunities with C-SPAN can find more information on the website, www.c-span.org/classroom/opportunities/ .
