Ben Rolens, Katy ISD’s general manager of facilities, corporate sponsorships and marketing, has been recognized by The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security – also known as NCS4 – as its 2021 Professional of the Year, according to a KISD press release.

“Katy ISD has worked closely with the NCS4 over the past several years to help develop national standards and best practices related to sports and special events safety and security,” Rolens said.

The press release said the award recognizes managers in the field that demonstrate leadership in addressing and improving safety and security at sporting events and venues. Rolens has worked with NCS4, KISD’s Athletics Department and the KISD Police Department to improve practices throughout the district. Rolens also helped ensure staff and facility workers received training to support the security and safety measures. He also coordinated messaging on digital videoboards related to safety.

The award will be presented to Rolens during the 2021 National Sports Safety and Security Conference & Exhibition held November 9-10.

“We want our Katy ISD school community to feel safe when entering our events or athletics venues.  From graduation ceremonies, sporting events and after-school gatherings and activities – safety is paramount,” Rolens said.
