Katy Christian Ministries received a new cargo truck in late July for their food pantry operations in the Katy area. The truck is an achievement that has been a goal for the nonprofit that provides a variety of services including domestic violence intervention and counseling, social services, crisis counseling and food assistance to those in need.

“My heart is so full and thankful to our partner churches that made this gift possible,” KCM Executive Director Deysi Crespo said.

The new vehicle cost about $30,000 and was funded with contributions from money provided by Katy area churches including Second Baptist, Kingsland Baptist, The Fellowship, Parkway Fellowship, Redeemer Community, Grace Fellowship, Living Stones Church Katy and Grace Community Fellowship West Houston, Crespo said.

The new vehicle will support operations for KCM’s food pantry primarily but will also support special events such as Santa’s Sleigh and school supply drives.

Crespo said she was excited about the vehicle because it would allow KCM to provide services to more people in times of need.

She also said she was extremely grateful for the public’s support during the COVID-19 pandemic over the last few months as memorial donations have increased. She truly appreciates the families that have lost loved ones reaching out through their grief to support the local nonprofit.

Thus far, the vehicle has been used to haul produce to food distributions and other similar functions and has already proven to be very useful in helping the community, Crespo said.

“A true blessing to the community we serve,” Crespo said.
