Judson Ceyanes came off the field after recording a sack and looked on to the field.

The Senior linebacker then watched as his brother JR reeled in a 31-yard touchdown catch.

The Ceyanes’ had a big day on Thursday as both made a difference in Katy’s 67-17 win over Taylor at Legacy Stadium, as Katy continued to stay undefeated on the season.

“It’s awesome,” Judson said,” It’s so great to be running off the field, look up and see him scoring. It was really cool to see. He was telling me the same thing, it was definitely a good feeling.”

Judson has multiple sacks on the night, while JR caught four passes for 62 yards and two touchdowns on the night.

The two have both played big roles on the team this year, but had yet to have big games simultaneously.

“It’s honestly crazy,” JR said. “We hadn’t had a game where we both had fully played to our best, but tonight was that night. It was just a crazy feeling being able to sit down on the bench after a touchdown, look up and see him getting a sack. It’s just crazy.”

Katy started the night off with a bang, as it took three plays for the team to drive the field before Caleb Koger threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to JR.

After forcing a three-and-out, the Tigers looked to be driving for another touchdown, but a muffed snap was recovered by Taylor and the Mustangs. Taylor capitalized on the turnover, as Tyler Irving ran in a touchdown to tie thing up at the end of the first quarter.

But Seth Davis took over from there, as the Katy running back rattled off touchdown runs of five-yards, 32-yards and 46-yards in the second quarter before to help Katy pull away.

Leading Davis along the way, as he does every week, was Isaiah Smith, who plays an integral position for Katy at fullback.

“I take a lot of pride in blocking every game,” Smith said “It means a lot to me and most importantly to this team. I try my best out go out there and do what I can for this team to help put us in the best situation to win. So if coach is having me blocking I’ll block. It’s one of those things I’ve grown to love to do and it’s just made me love football even more.”

Davis ended the day with 285 yards rushing and four touchdowns, his second straight game having four scores with the help of Smith at fullback.

“Smith is a big piece,” said Katy head coach Gary Joseph. “Our fullbacks in our offense are always a big piece, we go as those guys go. He’s just been very unselfish. He played fullback last year as a junior for the first time and he really has stepped up for us not only as a football player but as a leader too. He’s one of the leaders of this football team and it’s good to have him around these younger kids that look up to him  and see his work ethic and his habits.”

Taylor scored on its first possession to start the second half on a 69-yard pass from Jackson Ingram to Wyatt Fahey, but Katy continued the rout from there.

Davis ran in his fourth touchdown before Dallas Glass scored from 16-yards out and Katy also got a safety before Elijah Bowman threw a 31-yard touchdown to JR late in the third quarter.

Katy scored three times in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Despite the victory, Joseph knows there are things to clean up before the Tigers get to the playoffs, as the team had three fumbles, losing one of them on a turnover.

“We did some good things in the running game but we reverted back to some stuff from early in the year with putting the ball on the ground,” Joseph said. “We have to get out of that band be sharper. Defensively we also need to be a bit sharper and not give up the big plays. That was pretty uncharacteristic of the way they’ve played all week long, but it’s a learning experience and you have to credit Taylor for making plays.”

The win clinches at least a share of the district title for Katy, after the Tigers didn’t win it for the first time in 11 years last season.

“It’s really big, but we know we have to win next week to make it outright,” Smith said. “But it’s real big, especially to me. I was on that field last year when we lost to Tompkins, and it sucked. Coming out this year, showing the whole district who Katy really is, that was really important to me, but we won’t stop.”
