Katy-Tompkins game rescheduled to Saturday due to COVID-19 case

Posted

The much-anticipated Katy High-Tompkins varsity football game scheduled to take place Thursday at 6 p.m. at Legacy Stadium has been rescheduled to Saturday.

On Wednesday, the district received a report that a member of the Katy High football program had tested positive for COVID-19 and was on campus as of Oct. 13.

Members of the Katy High football program deemed in close contact with the individual receive direct notification from campus administration and are provided information to ensure their safety and well-being.

Wednesday’s sub-varsity games between the two schools were canceled and are pending a new date. The varsity game has been tentatively rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. at Legacy Stadium.

Should there be a need to further delay the varsity game, it would be rescheduled for the week of Nov. 26-28.

“The Katy ISD Emergency Management team continues to conduct contact tracing in an effort to mitigate any potential spread,” Katy ISD wrote in a statement to the Katy Times on Wednesday afternoon.

This is the second known instance of COVID-19 cases affecting the Katy ISD football season.

Tompkins’ game against Clear Springs two weeks ago was postponed by one day due to three cases affecting the Tompkins program.

Katy and Tompkins enter this week each 3-0 in the young season, 1-0 each in district play. The game figures to have potential district title implications.
