Katy took an important game one over Brazoswood on Wednesday, beating the Buccaneers 3-1 behind a big performance from Cameryn Harrison on the mound and an Ella Kate-Smith two run game winning double.
Brazoswood struck first in the first inning, getting a runner in scoring position that Ali Rios drove in on a single, but that would be the Buccaneers only run of the game.
Cameryn Harrison immediately tied things up in the bottom of the inning by hitting a solo home run and then got out of jams in the top of the second inning and top of the fifth inning.
The score stayed tied until the bottom of the sixth when the Tigers broke the deadlock. Ashtyn Reichardt hit a single to lead off the inning and was put in scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Hailey Gore, Cameryn Harrison drew a walk and both runners moved over on a wild pitch. Kate-Smith then stepped to the plate and hit a two run double that ended up being the game winner. Harrison closed out the game with two strikeouts and a line out in the top of the seventh.
Harrison had a huge day on the mound, pitching a complete game and allowing the one unearned run on five hits while striking out nine and walking two. Harrison also provided a run and RBI on her home run while Kate-Smith had two RBIs on her double as Katy improved to 38-1-1 overall.
Game two will be played at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Iowa Colony High School.
