The Katy Heritage Society is seeking applications for its annual scholarship program, according to Katy Heritage Society President Adrienne Davitz. The nonprofit, which seeks to preserve Katy’s history, will be offering one $1,000 scholarship to a Katy ISD student.
Applicants must be enrolled or enrolling in an accredited college, university or vocational training and must live within the boundaries of KISD. In order to apply, they must then complete a research paper regarding some aspect of the history of the Katy area whether that is a period of time, a notable person or other development in Katy’s more than a century of history. The paper must include original research conducted by the student.
Entries must be submitted by Oct. 1 and include a cover page that provides the applicant’s name, address, phone number and email address. Additionally, the cover page should describe any volunteer, community service or nonprofit work the student has done as well as a description of how the student intends to pay for their education.
Once submitted, a panel of judges will evaluate the papers which will be judged on historical accuracy, the impact of the topic on Katy history and literary merit.
The award will be made in the form of a check payable to the winner’s educational institution.
