The bi-district round isn’t new for Katy.

The Tigers knew what they needed to do on Friday and took care of business.

 “That’s the expectation here,” said senior defensive end Malick Sylla. “We come in and prepare every week so we’ll be ready for these games. There’s some things we could have done better and that we need to clean up as well.”

The Tigers, behind three interceptions and four touchdowns from Dallas Glass, cruised past Fort Bend Clements 56-7 in the Class 6A, Division II bi-district round at Legacy Stadium. Setting up a meeting next week with Stratford at 7 p.m. next Friday at Tully Stadium.

Seth Davis got katy started on their opening possession, breaking off runs of 22 and 13, before Dallas Glass took over and ran in a 1-yard touchdown for the games first score.

Katy used Davis sparingly in its first postseason game, as the junior rushed eight times but still had 102 yards.

Katy had only the one score in the first quarter, but broke the game open in the second.

Early in the second quarter, Malick Sylla read a screen pass from  Clements and intercepted it, returning the interception ten yards for a touchdown.

“All the credit for that goes to my scout team,” Sylla said. “I’ve seen that screen probably 100 times this week. It felt good, I was prepared for it and had seen it all week. The coaches let us know how to see it and I just was able to make a play.”

Glass scored on runs of 11 and 5 in the quarter as Katy took a 28-0 lead into the half.

“That’s just what they do, the defense makes play and Malick does that on the regular,” said senior receiver Antonio Silva. “I feel like it’s all in us to make plays like that and it motivates us. We were made to do that.”

Glass capped off his day with a 5-yard run in the third quarter to give Katy a 35 point lead. The junior finished with 110 yards on 21 carries to go with his three touchdowns.

Nathan Wilson scored on a touchdown run and Elijah Bowman threw a touchdown to Ramarian Tillman with backups in before Clements got a consolation touchdown late in the fourth.

Silva capped things off with an 81-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on the ensuing kickoff.

“It was amazing,” Silva said. “I saw a wide-open hole and went for it. I trusted my blockers, running away from everyone and stiff arming the last person just felt like finishing a maze, when I got into the touchdown it felt like I was entering heaven.”

Despite the big win, the Tigers know they will need to be better on both ends going forward, and hope to continue to get healthier.

“Some of our coverage stuff is going to have to be better,” said head coach Gary Joseph. “That goes back to getting all the ones back who are hurt. Hamilton McMartin came back this week after not playing last week We have guys coming back and getting people back into the swing of things is as big as anything else.”

Katy’s has bigger goals than just the area round and will keep trying to find ways to improve everyday.

“We have to keep focus and have determination,” Silva said. “We have to make sure we keep our commitments, that’s not hard for us bcause that’s what Katy is about and what we strive for. We do that, I think we’re going to make it all the way.”
