Katy Christian Ministries reopening as temperatures begin to rise

Posted

Katy Christian Ministries announced via press release that it is beginning to reopen after closing due to this week’s inclement weather. The ministry’s food pantry is expected to reopen this coming Monday, Feb. 22.

“With most of the storm behind us, we set our sights on uplifting a community that has had to persevere through multiple challenges in just the last calendar year. In recent days, volunteers have shown up to our doors and responded to our call for help,” KCM Executive Director Deysi Crespo said.

The KCM Crisis Center worked throughout the cold snap, working to help victims of domestic violence and help those in need of shelter during the storm, KCM Director of Communication Ryan Freeberg said in the press release. The two hotlines for the crisis center are currently open:

  • Domestic Violence: 281-391-4357
  • Sexual Assault: 281-693-7273

KCM’s Social Services Department will reopen Monday; however, social workers have been working or the past two days to return phone calls and schedule appointments for clients in need. Clients who do not reach a social worker immediately are encouraged to leave a message and their call will be returned, Freeberg said. Those needing food assistance are encouraged to call the hotline provided below to schedule an appointment as backlog is expected. Those in an emergency situation may also contact the nonprofit via email at info@ktcm.org.

  • KCM Social Services Hotline: 281-391-9623

The nonprofit’s resale store at 5510 First Street in downtown Katy will open today, though it’s  second store at 23232 Kingsland Boulevard will remain closed due to water damage from burst pipes. It is unknown when the Kingsland location will reopen at this time. Staff and volunteers are still assessing the damage.

Veterans in need of assistance are encouraged to reach out to the Help-A-Hero campaign for assistance. KCM offers help to veterans in the Katy area in the form of rent utility, child care and transportation aid. The point of contact for that program is Lucia Delgado and she may be reached at Lucia.Eelgado@ktcm.org.

For those in a position to safely and comfortably do so, KCM asks for anyone interested in volunteering to visit ktcm.org/volunteer to register as a volunteer today. In-kind donations are also critically needed at this time so that KCM can properly fill the needs of our neighbors. To donate to KCM, those interested are encouraged to visit ktcm.org/donate.

“Our neighbors never cease to inspire me,” Crespo said. “I am grateful for this community and their heart. Our neighbors always respond when we need them most. I pray that this continues.”
