A man has died after being shot in an incident at the Haven at Westgreen Apartments on Westgreen Boulevard, just south of I-10 shortly before 3 p.m. Friday. The shooting, which also caused campus lockdowns at nearby James E. Taylor High School and Nottingham Country Elementary, also resulted in the man’s five-year-old son being injured.

“Unknown suspect(s) fired multiple times at (the victims) and fled on foot,” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted regarding the incident. “No description yet and motive is unknown. If you have info, please call us.”

Harris County Emergency Services District 48 Spokesman Jason Tharp said the man, who was estimated to be 30 years of age, had been shot multiple times while his son was hit in the right arm during the shooting. The man was then flown via Life Flight to a downtown hospital. A one-year-old male infant was also in the home that was fired upon during the incident.

The five-year-old is considered in stable condition, Gonzalez said.

KISD Manager of Media Relations Maria DiPetta said in a brief statement that went out to parents that KISD had locked down the two campuses as a precaution to ensure student and staff safety.

“The District has been informed of a shooting incident that has occurred near the area of THS and NCE. We do not have any additional information about the incident.  However, out of an abundance of caution both campuses have been placed on a lockout— meaning outside visitors are unable to access the building at this time,” the KISD announcement read.

The lockout was lifted shortly before 5 p.m., DiPetta said.

Gonzalez tweeted at about 6 p.m. that the father had died. HCSO is still investigating the deadly shooting and is asking for anyone with information to contact them at 713-221-6000.
