UPDATED: Katy and Royal ISDs set to reopen Tuesday

Posted

UPDATE posted Feb. 22 at 7:48 p.m.: Bear Creek Elementary students will also return to campuses Tuesday after the boil water notice for that campus was lifted this evening.

Originally posted Feb. 22 at 6:45 p.m.: Both Katy and Royal ISDs have announced that in-person and virtual classes will resume Tuesday under the same COVID-19 protocols as before Winter Storm Uri shut down the Katy area last week.

KISD’s Schmalz Elementary and Bear Creek Elementary are in areas still under a boil water notice and parents of students who attend those particular campuses should check for district messaging regarding those campuses.

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act provides immediate enrollment and educational stability for students who may be displaced because of the recent storm, or other event. District staff is in the process of reaching out to families to connect them with supports and information available through the act. Displaced families are encouraged to complete a Student Residency Questionnaire- ENG or Student Residency Questionnaire- SPA, and email it to SRQ@katyisd.org, or call 281-396-2612.  Additional information about the Act can be found here.

Royal ISD did not provide information regarding the McKinney-Vento law and parents should contact the district for assistance related to such issues. The district may be reached by phone at 281-934-2248 or via email at contactus@royal-isd.net.
