At the October 8 meeting of Harris County Commissioners Court, members unanimously approved two significant projects from Precinct 4’s 2023 Call for Projects. These initiatives will enhance connectivity, improve drainage, and boost walkability in the Katy area, directly addressing key community needs, said a spokesperson for Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones in an email to the Katy Times.
Below are the project highlights:
· Greenbelt Park and Trail Project: Precinct 4 is partnering with Nottingham Country MUD to enhance walkability by linking Greenbelt Park with nearby schools, shopping centers, and the local library via connected sidewalks. Trail connections will link to Greenbelt Park along South Fry, Westgreen and Highland Knolls.
· Cane Island Branch Drainage Study: Precinct 4 is supporting the Brookshire-Katy Drainage District's master drainage plan for Cane Island Branch of Buffalo Bayou to mitigate flood risks in this rapidly growing area near Clay Road and Katy Hockley Road, close to the Waller County line.
The two projects are among a total of five more projects from Briones’ 2023 Call for Partnership, representing over $43 million in investments, including $13.5 million from Precinct 4.
