Harmony Public Schools teacher receives education grant

Posted

Harmony School of Innovation – Katy math teacher Nasim Chenari was one of 14 teachers awarded Marathon Oil’s Unconventional Thinking in Teaching Program grant.

On Friday, October 8, 2021, Chenari received a $2,500 grant from Marathon Oil pilot program to support the purchase of classroom resources, such as books, activity /lab materials and technology, or personal professional development.

“As part of Harmony Charter Schools, we have a mixed and very diverse population. In our classes, we have different students of different races, religions and backgrounds, from different economical levels of our society. As a teacher in a class with all these different populations, I always make sure that my instruction will serve all different groups of students,” said Chenari.

Chenari plans to use the grant money to buy books related to mathematics in real life as well as pursue additional certifications that would provide better accommodations and modifications to the different groups of learners in her classes.

“By investing in inclusive and equitable quality education, we hope to build a foundation for strong communities and socio-economic growth. Education has the power to improve lives by breaking the cycle of family poverty and enabling students to reach their full potential,” said CEO of Marathon Oil Lee M. Tillman.

Enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year begins November 1. For more information go to www.harmonytx.org/apply.
