Fulshear trash services adjusted due to trash collector's COVID-19 diagnosis

The city of Fulshear announced Tuesday that it’s trash services provider, WCA Waste Corporation, has notified the city of changes to its trash service which go into effect as of Wednesday. The notice comes after a WCA employee tested positive for COVID-19.

“At WCA, our highest priority continues to be the health and well-being of our customers and staff during an evolving situation. Last night, we learned that one of our drivers has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. As a precaution, the helpers and other drivers who have been in close contact with this driver have been quarantined,” a notice from WCA read.

Service changes include restrictions that WCA will only be picking up trash inside the trash bin and up to two bulk items set out at the curb, including items such as bundled tree limbs or grass clippings. Additionally, recycling bins will not be picked up and residents are asked not to place the bins on the curb for collection. Trash should not be placed in the recycle bins either as collectors have been instructed not to pick up anything in the yellow-topped recycle bins.

“This safety measure is based on recommendations from public health officials and our commitment to minimize possible employee exposure to the COVID-19 coronavirus,” WCA’s statement said.
