Today is Election Day and the cities of Katy and Brookshire, as well as Katy ISD, have items on the ballot for residents to choose from. All polling locations throughout the Katy area are open until 7 p.m. and voters in line by 7 p.m. are legally allowed to vote.

A list of polling locations for the Katy ISD elections may be found here.

KISD’s Proposition A, if approved by voters, will providing more than $591 million in funding for new schools, renovations of old campuses, safety and security upgrades, buses and other capital maintenance projects. Proposition B would provide nearly $60 million in funding for upgrades to technology throughout the district. Proposition C is asking for voters to approve about $13.8 million for a natatorium for proposed high school number 10 for the district. Finally, Proposition D would provide repairs and maintenance funding for athletic facilities in the amount of $11.26 million.

KISD administrative staff have repeatedly said the bond propositions will not raise the district’s tax rate.

CITY OF KATY

Katy residents are facing both a two-proposition bond election as well as elections for Wards A and B. The Ward A seat will see a newcomer after incumbent Dusty Thiele did not choose to file to run for office. Instead, Dan Smith is facing Diane Walker in the race to represent the ward’s residents on council. For Ward B, incumbent Councilmember Jenifer Stockdick is facing challenger Gina Hicks.

City of Katy voters will also be deciding on two bond propositions.

Proposition A for the city is a $1.8 million bond that would be used to reimburse the city for repairs to Fire Station One on Avenue D, construction of a new training tower for the Katy Fire Department, expansion of the city’s fleet maintenance facility and refurbishing Katy PD facilities.

Meanwhile, Katy’s Proposition B is a parks and recreation bond worth $4.2 million for construction of improvements to the city’s parks facilities. This includes design and construction of a new administration building for the parks department, improvements to parks, additional parks and trails and the associated design costs for those amenities, if approved by voters.

City of Katy voters are also examining amendments to the city’s charter. A summary of the amendments being considered may be found on the city’s election page, near the bottom.

Sample ballots for city of Katy residents may be found here. Ward A residents should vote at the new Katy Civic Center located at 910 Avenue C in Katy while Ward B residents should visit the Katy Municipal Court building, near Katy PD, at 5432 Franz Road in Katy.

BROOKSHIRE

The city of Brookshire will be deciding who will fill the city’s mayoral seat as well as alderperson positions one and two. Incumbent Mayor Darrell Branch is facing challengers Kim Davis and Leee Nelson Jones. Incumbent for position one Marilyn Vaughn is facing Monique Taylor in her bid to keep her seat, while incumbent Alderperson Lyndon L. Stamps is facing challengers Gary Cruseturner and Suzette Inez Baines for the position two seat.

Brookshire residents should vote at the Brookshire Convention Center located at 4027 Fifth Street in downtown Brookshire. Sample ballots may be found here.
