Davis, Hicks named to preseason All-State team

Katy’s Seth Davis and Paetow’s David Hicks Jr. were named to Dave Campbell preseason All-State team, as both took home first tam honors in the preseason awards.

It came as no surprise the duo were named to the preseason All-State team after their accomplishments as underclassmen, as both head into the year as one of the very best at their respective positions in the state.

Davis has shown his ability for Katy since his sophomore year, when he rushed for 1625 yards and 17 touchdowns while being named the MVP of the Class 6A-Division II State Title game. All he did was follow that up with a 2422 yard juniot season to go along with 28 touchdowns. Bringing his career mark to 4047 yards and 45 touchdowns. He has averaged over 149 yards per game for his career and 9.8 yards per carry.

And Davis isn’t satisfied, after committing to Mississippi State this summer and earning a 3-star rating on collegiate services, as his goal for his senior season is to rush for over 3,000 yards and rush for even more touchdowns than he did in his junior season.

Hicks spent his sophomore season at Morton Ranch before moving to Allen his junior year. Now he is back at Katy ISD with Paetow for his senior season, as his father, David Hicks Sr. took a job on the Panthers coaching staff.

As a junior, Hicks totaled 88 tackles, including 22 tackles for loss and 13 sacks for Allen, which made it to the fourth round of the Class 6A-Division I. He is the No. 1 ranked player out of Texas in the 2023 and a 5 star with over 40 collegiate offers. Hicks has a top seven of the University of Oklahoma, University of Alabama, Univeristy of Oregon, Mchigan State University and the Univeristy of Miami, Texas A&M University and the University of Texas.

Dave Campbell expects both Katy and Paetow to have strong seasons this year, predicting the two will both make the Class 6A-Division II playoffs and meet in the Region III Final, with Dave Campbell predicting Katy will make it to the championship game. They also listed District 19-6A as a district to watch, as teams in the District averaged more wins last year than in any other 6A district.
