David James Himly, age 75, of Sealy, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 27, 2019, in Houston, Texas.

He was born on March 9, 1944 in Sealy, Texas, to Edward Otto Himly Sr., and Winifred (Wendt) Himly. David graduated from Sealy High School in 1962 and then made the brave choice to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. David looked forward to seeing the world outside of his hometown, and he was able to do this throughout his three years in the Army.

After his years of military service, David moved back to Sealy and began working for Chappell Hill Construction in Brenham, Texas, where he worked for over 30 years as a construction superintendent. He also took pride in working for the family produce business.

David was a true outdoorsman. You could often find him hunting, fishing, calling coyotes, taking nature photos or working in his garden. When he had spare time, he enjoyed league bowling and barbecuing.

David supported and loved his nephews and nieces like they were his own kids. He attended all their football, softball, basketball, volleyball games, cheer events and was their number one fan. He was a genuinely kind man with a big heart for others. David had a great sense of humor and could always find a way to make you smile. He will truly be missed by his beloved family.

He is survived by his brother, Edward Himly Jr. and wife Paula of Houston; nephews Anthony Davila and wife Kristie of Sealy, Wesley Beard III and wife Sherille of Houston; nieces Theresa Klotz and husband Raymond of Sealy, Lisa Rodriguez and husband Victor of Brenham, Tamara Johnson and husband Lance of Cat Spring, Danielle Nester and husband Dale of Montgomery, and Erica McBride and husband Tyler of Denton; brother in law Tony Davila of Sealy; great-nephews and nieces Madison and Mason Klotz, Marissa Wilson and Preston Rodriguez, Jordyn, Ashlyn and Kadyn Davila, Darren Lizotte, Dylan and Dawson Johnson, Nikolas Himly and Hailea Poff, Patrick and Bryan Beard, and Taylor, Melina and Alaina McBride.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Winnie Himly and his sister, Lois Davila.

A visitation was held July 2 at Knesek Family Funeral Chapel, 768 4th Street, Sealy, with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. Burial followed at Sealy Cemetery in Sealy.

The family of David Himly would like to express our gratitude to DaVita Sealy Dialysis for loving and taking care of David for over 10 years.

Pallbearers were Raymond Klotz, Victor Rodriguez, Lance Johnson, Wesley Beard, Dale Nester, and Darren Lizotte. Honorary pallbearers were Tony Davila and Charles Wendt.
